Four weeks ago I was diagnosed with Ulnar Nerve Entrapment.

Doctor appointments seemed endless as there were months and months of no solution. I originally thought I had Carpal Tunnel Syndrome as the symptoms were very familiar. It also causes pain in your right wrist and makes it difficult to type for excessive periods of time. However, after seeing a massage therapist and a chiropractor we finally figured out what was causing me so much pain.

My Diagnosis

As time went on, I started noticing other symptoms. Such as: shooting pain going up and down my right forearm, numbed fingers and clicking at the elbow. Concerned for my health and wellbeing, I headed to the doctor with all the new symptoms in mind and as I sat in the doctor’s office, I was told that what I was experiencing is called “Ulnar Nerve Entrapment“.

As my general practitioner continued to explain how all the nerves, muscles and your brain work together that can cause Ulnar Nerve, I began to tear up. I was upset with myself that I didn’t take the necessary precautions sooner that “may” have helped me steer away from this. I was upset that after years and years of working as legal administrative assistant, I may have to “stop” because I can no longer sit at a computer and type for 8 hours a day.

Learning to Adjust

Though I’m thankful that I’ve finally figured out what was is causing me so much pain….yes I have two arms, two legs,  and I’m otherwise healthy but that doesn’t change my diagnosis. I still face challenges and like to call it my invisible pain. You can’t SEE that I am hurting unless I actually tell you what is wrong with me BUT the pain IS there.

I am learning to eat with my left hand (I’m right handed). I also cannot grip a pen or pencil to handwrite and when I do, the writing is very hard to read. That is because when I hold my arm in the “writing” position it triggers my ulnar nerve and causes my pinky and ring fingers to go numb.

When I wash dishes (I do not own a dishwasher), I can only stand to do it for 10 minutes because my hand starts to cramp up. Even as I write this post my right wrist has started to ache and I’ve only been sitting here for about 30 minutes. Now imagine that every single day of your life. Sounds scary doesn’t it? That’s because it is.

Investing In My Health with Dyson V8

The biggest investment that has helped enormously since my diagnosis has been this Dyson V8 Absolute.

As a mother of two rowdy boys, you can guess that I am constantly cleaning and picking up after them. Now add that to my Ulnar Nerve Entrapment, and you can bet that I don’t want to spend my time untangling knots from a Vacuum cleaner or lifting a heavy vacuum up and down the corridors of my home.

Thankfully, Dyson has released another innovative vacuum that helps me take care of my family and home without any added disturbance or pain

Here’s 5 Reasons Why We Love Our Dyson V8 Absolute

The first feature that you will notice about the Dyson V8 is how sleek and weightless it looks (that’s because it is!). You can easily vacuum your home without the bother of cords or knots, which means less time untangling and more time with your kids!

As mentioned above, the Dyson V8 doesn’t look like your ordinary vacuum.  Weighing only 5.7 lbs, Dyson V8 makes vacuuming less of a chore and more of a game.

Nine Different Tools in One

Unlike other Vacuums, the Dyson V8 provides you with nine different types of tools that are can easily detach with the press of a button and reattach with a simple “one, two” click.

When it comes to my Ulnar Nerve Diagnosis, switching positions is a must! Having my right hand hold a vacuum up can trigger the shooting pains. Therefore, being able to go from standing to a handheld vacuum is super helpful.

Hygienic Dirt Ejector

This one is self-explanatory. With the new dirt ejector you don’t have to worry about replacing the dirt filters and instead can enjoy the advanced washable lifetime filter.

How Dyson V8 Helps Me

My Ulnar Nerve Entrapment prevents me from reaching forward or above for long periods of time and gripping is extremely difficult (especially after a long day of typing).  The fact that the Dyson V8 comes with interchanging heads to get to those places that I would otherwise skip, makes me so relieved!

The Dyson V8 deserves all the praise for how much easier it has made cleaning for me. I’ve raved about a lot of things but this one in particular, I stand by, whole heartedly. My life has changed drastically in the past 10 months and being unable to clean as well as I used too was making me feel like a failure as a mother. Thankfully, with this new Dyson, I’ve seen a world of difference in my home and even in me.

If you know somebody that may have Ulnar Nerve, Carpal Tunnel or Arthritis and are having trouble getting their day to day housekeeping done, tell them to look into the Dyson V8, they won’t regret it!

I’d love to win because our vacuum is getting old and I have to unplug it all the time since stuff gets stuck in the bristles. I have to vacuum every day since we have 5 kids and so this chore takes quite a while to complete. It would be amazing to win a Dyson, thanks for the chance!

My mother in law has a Dyson and she loves it!! I’ve heard nothing but wonderful things about this vacuum. I’m sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I have wrist pain on occasion from the few years I spent in retail. I often wear a wrist brace at night and notice the pain when I am on my phone for significant periods of time (the plight of a blogger!) I love your blog & style!

  • Gord

I want to win this Dyson vacuum as my back is always giving me a lot of pain. Vacuuming with the “Old beast”(that’s the name I gave it) I have now is impossible. It is just too heavy to push around the house. Having a lightweight like this Dyson will certainly make my life a lot easier as I could probably do the vacuuming instead of depending on someone else!

    • Hi Gord ! Im sorry to hear that you have back pain, I also suffer from that as well 🙁
Good luck on the giveaway !

  • Nanyi

I need this vacuum in my life! It’d be so easy to just grab and get going on your daily chores. Give.it.to.me.girl 😂😉😉

  • Kristy Powers

I would LOVE to win: Why? lets just say: 3 small kidlets + 2 cats, I feel like there is an endless supply of crumbs, dirt, hair – you name it! I have a heavy and crappy vacuum, and lets be real, most days (errrrr…weeks) I’m so exhausted to lug that thing out, especially to our stairs. This would be an amazing prize!!

  • Nancy

I’ve tried the Dyson V8 at my son’s place. I have the dyson animal ball. It’s a bit heavy and since I have two Hymalayin cats, I have to vacuum everyday. We re switching to hardwoods in a month or so and would love to get this vacuum.

  • Kim S

I love that it’s cordless! Since we have a two story house, lugging a big vacuum up and down stairs is the worst!

  • Samantha Lenz

Oh gosh – I have a cat and a one year old. I feel like I should be vacuuming everyday. No wait, I do need to be!!! Lol help this mama out!

  • Gail Butler

It would help with the endless dog hair that I vacuum every day. Thanks for the opportunity!

  • Amanda Hudson

I’d be able to stop my lil one from EATING Hair… yuck!

  • Alison Braidwood

I have carpal, so the lightness of the Dyson definitely is a plus in my view.

  • Kim

With the 2 messy dogs, Phanno, and a baby in my arm having a light weight vacuum would be so much help. Also it being cordless would mean my blind small dog wouldn’t have to trip over the wires like she does now haha 😘😘 hope I win 🙏🏽

  • Jude Vilela

OMG! i didn’t know you had that!! 🙁 i’m so sorry to hear that! i thought mine was pretty bad. i still haven’t gone to the doctors to see if it actually is carpel tunnel but i’ve been too chicken 🙁

    • I found out a month ago 🙁 I’ve been doubling up on my chiro and massage appts and now added Acupuncture. you need to go to the DRs ASAP. Trust me babe !!

  • ivy pluchinsky

I have arthritis, so this Dyson would probably help me with my cleaning as well!
