Nobody is going to pretend that pregnancy isn’t uncomfortable. Yes, it’s lovely because a new life is growing inside you, and you get all these wonderful hormones that make you think the world is beautiful, but even then, it’s still uncomfortable. Luckily, other people were uncomfortable with their pregnancies too, so they invented things to make it better. Here are just a few things you’ll probably want to purchase to get through it.

A memory foam mattress topper

Just for a little bit of added support in bed, a memory foam mattress topper can make a huge difference to your comfort while you sleep, and the state of your lower back when you wake up.

A good body pillow

A good mattress, a good body pillow, and a few extra ordinary pillows, and you’ve got yourself a slightly ridiculous setup, but one which should guarantee you a good night’s sleep.

A belly band

As you get further on through your pregnancy, the weight of your tummy can cause some pretty severe back and hip pains. A good belly band will support just under your tummy, and will even help with post-birth recovery too.

Candied ginger

Ginger is fantastic for helping nausea, but you’re probably not going to want to eat it raw. I mean, you might want to, but it’s much nicer when it’s candied.

Essential oils

Lavender, peppermint, and lemon essential oils in a diffuser in your bedroom will do wonders for your morning sickness. If you sleep in a room with those lovely smells every night, you should feel a lot better when you wake up.

Swimming pool membership

While you’re prepping for baby’s arrival it’s important to take care of yourself, but most exercise becomes too high impact as you get further along through your pregnancy. Swimming is an excellent way to keep yourself fit and your muscles strong, while also supporting the weight of your belly. It’s brilliant for soothing tense muscles and aches and pains too.


One minute you’ll be crying uncontrollably at a TV as, the next minute you’ll be laughing so hard you cry. Your hormones are going to be going a bit mad while you’re pregnant, so keep some tissues on hand.

Comfy shoes

Especially important if you spend any time on your feet for work, or if you have other kids to run about after. Since you’re getting heavier, your feet are taking more of a beating. It’s probably time to put the strappy sandals away and stick to comfy trainers and slippers.

Hot water bottle

Did I mention, everything aches? A hot water bottle for choice application in particularly achy spots is great for relieving tension.

Someone to administer back and foot rubs

It’s the least he can do since you’re carrying around his child and he gets off scot-free. Make sure you have some deliciously scented massage oils and moisturizers, and let him get stuck in.

Pregnancy is a beautiful time in a woman’s life; it’s just that little bit more wonderful with a few accessories to make it slightly more comfortable and relaxed.
