We are all surviving parenthood.

The Truth

I know theres many parents that LOVE every aspect of parenting, whether it be a poopie diaper, a screaming child or sleepless nights, they embrace every second of it. If you’re like us, there are good days and there are bad days. I try to share as much of our reality on social media but the truth is, if  I shared all the ugly, you would sit and wonder how I manage to get anything done!

Becoming Parents

Miguel and I have had different journeys before becoming parents to Abel. In fact, I was a parent far before Miguel and I even considered being in a relationship. Many of you know that Miguel isn’t Jayden’s “real dad” which has made parenting together difficult.

I had tons of questions. Where do I draw the line of discipline? Do I allow him to take on the full father figure role? Does he even have a say when it comes to Jayden? All these questions needed an answer and after many years, we’ve figured most of them out.

When it comes to Abel things are a little different, we can agree and make decisions a lot faster but like many of you, we are just trying to make it through each and every day.

Tips for Surviving Parenthood

Whether you’re a first, second or third time parent you can find comfort in knowing that parenthood isn’t for the faint of heart. So congrats! You’re tough enough to raise a child! Here are some tips for surviving parenthood.

Don’t try to be perfect

Children could care less if you give them the perfect Pinterest birthday party or if there wearing name brand clothing. Trust me, all they want is your love and attention (so put the phone away) – and yes this goes for me too !

Make Time for Play

Something so simple can be easily forgotten. Children thrive off play and parents can too ! Strap on your best shoes and head to the nearest community park. Union Jack Boots has great selection for the whole family. We are rocking our new SK8 – HI Vans and they were perfect for a stroll around the mall. You can’t even tell that we were having a rough day.

Let it Be

I’m still struggling with this one, but things that can’t be avoided, most likely won’t be.

Ask for help

Parenting can be overwhelming. I’ve had my breaking point more then once in the last week ! Things may seem to get worse before they get better but with your village, you will make it through.

last but not least,

Take a break

No one is expecting you to parent all day and night without needing some time for YOU. When I realized I  was digging myself into a dark hole of negativity, I had to stop, and take a break to refresh my mind.

Remember, taking a break doesn’t  make you weak, it means you are strong enough to realize that you need to step away so you can come back refreshed.

Always be grateful for the gift of parenthood ! No matter how good or bad <3
